Chapter 4
Troubles of Loving a Vampire

The days seem longer than usual with Mike doing all the preparations for the upcoming war against the berserker wolves, while Chantel felt bored and useless just watching everyone working so hard for the final repairs of the village and the training. Chantel sat upon a stump watching people passing by when she caught a glimpse of Jordan rushing from the maze entrance.
“What’s the rush?” Chantel questioned as she stood up.
“I have figured out how the vampires can fight in daylight” he cried out in excitement.
Jordan ran off like the world was ending, leaving Chantel to sit on her lonesome again. Chantel began to wonder if maybe he is avoiding her, and what if it was because she told him she loved him. Her breathing grew heavier and her heart pounded quickly making her stomach turn. One thought pushed her to wanting to cry, what if he doesn’t really love me? Tears formed to her eyes waiting to build up enough to stream down her face. Sitting there holding her stomach trying not to cry in public when a shadow glooms over her.
“You ok Chantel?” Mike asked her in concern.
“Mike” she cried, grasping him tightly.
“What’s the matter?” Mike whispered.
“I just miss not seeing you” she whispered back.
“Then come with me where ever I go” Mike told her in her ear.
She smiled and grabbed his cold hand, “ok, where are we going?” she questioned. He smiled and pulled her hand towards the castle door. The two thumped up the stairs to Mike’s room and to the bed side. She looked to him in confusion and looked down to the bed. Mike bent down and reached under the bed, pulling out a white box with gold writing on the top.
“What is that?” she questioned with a look of interest.
“A pendent that will give my sword a special ability” he answered as he opened the box.
Inside was two identical pendent’s of a dragon holding a ball of dark liquid.
“Why is there two? Kyrah told me you used one sword during the fight agaisnt the berserker wolf attack” she asked while still staring into the dark liquid.
“I use two swords, but they can connect to form one larger sword called dark-fang” he said as he shook the red liquid, watching the air bubble drop and float back up.
“I see, and what is that dark liquid?” she questioned again.
“My blood” he answered silently watching the blood closely.
Chantel looked from him to the blood, watching it as carefuly as he was. The blood began to form black wavy streams inside, the streams growing larger the longer he looked at it. The ball radiated black energy making the dragons eyes turn red.
“So how will this help?” she questioned staring into the black energy.
“Inside is a concentraded ball of energy that we create when we are infants” he began to lecture while Chantel was still tranced into the ball of energy.
“Vampires are most powerful at this point while our one week transfomration is in process” he continued.

"A long time ago, one of our ancestors was able to extract the ball of energy from his son to wield for himself. Realizing that only the vampire that it came from can use the power, he began to train his son with extreme and harsh training tactics. His son grew hatred for his father because he was never enough for him. On the day my ancestor gave his son the power to wield for himself, he used it to kill his father. The elder's didn’t like the power that the vampire was wielding so they had to track and kill him. Three days passed in search before they found him. A great battle took place between the most powerful vampires of that century, and only one elder survived. Elder Lyndsay's ancestor was the one who survived. Apparently the battle was won because the power eventually killed him and completely destroyed his body to ashes. My father found my ancestors papers and performed the extraction on me when I was at my week transformation process" he said to brief her on the history.

“Will that happen to you?” Chantel questioned.

“I don’t know” he answered.

He put the pendants into the box and slid it under the bed. Chantel’s question made him think of the story he heard as a child, questioning whether it was true or not. The more he thought of the ending of the story the more he thought of Chantel.

“I don’t know when, but I know I will someday have to use the pendants. This isn’t something I can think lightly on and it’s not something I can back down from, I need you to be strong and except this” he said harshly, looking away so he wouldn’t see her saddened shock show on her face. Chantel quickly got up and ran out of the room holding her face. He looked to the floor disappointed in himself to see drops of water forming a trail leading to the door.

“What was that all about?” Kyrah questioned through the door way.

“Something that needed to be said” he replied in a low voice.

“Some things can be said differently and not as harsh, don’t you think?” Kyrah advised him. He got up and walked to the door and stood next to Kyrah.

“Yeah, so I should talk to her huh?” he asked her, well knowing the answer already. He left without giving Kyrah a chance to say anything. Fifteen minutes passed before he found her in the garden beside the castle. He walked up the stone path toward the arch bridge where she stood looking at her reflection in the water below. He leaned on the railing of the stone bridge beside her, looking into the water like she was.

“I’m sorry for what I said, I didn’t mean it the way it came out” he began.

“I just thought-well I don’t know what I was thinking. I wasn’t expecting someone like you to come into my life. You know . . . my father taught me to be a leader and to protect the people under me. He told me that the people of this village and the vampires that serve me are the ones who make up this place. He told me that if I show loyalty they will give it back and follow my decisions whether it’s to the death or not. He never told me anything about a woman” he told her watching the reflections ripple from falling tree petals. Chantel chuckled and began to move closer to him, showing that she wasn’t as upset.

“If that’s your apology, then you’re forgiven. But you can’t use that power unless you absolutely have to” she said smiling.

“Ok, I’ll use it when I’m at the brink of death and the enemy isn’t dead yet” he suggested.

“Fine, but lets try not to be at the brink of death” she chuckled.

“No promises can be kept” he said looking in her eyes with a smile.

She pouted and her eyebrows raised making a sad puppy dog look to try and make him feel guilty or to say what she wanted to hear. He moved a dangling hair from her face to the back of her ear and then slid his hand down to her cheek. Her face ceased from her pouting and went to a calming soft look. He set his hand on her hip making her rise up onto her toes closer to his height. The wind blew swiftly and softly between them carrying leaves and petals of flowers and trees with it. His hair blew out of his face just enough to see one of his dark red eyes gazing at her beauty. Goose bumps ran along her skin making her hairs stand up. She moved her hands from his arms to wrap around his neck, her lips followed the movement and touched his making her eyes close. The sunlight faded behind the hills in the distance, allowing darkness to engulf the sky and the stars shining brightly for all to see. Light bugs began to fly around in the garden and the flowers that only opened during the night gave off their own glow that reflected off the water, making it seem to glow even more.

“Wow, the garden is so beautiful during the night” she said excitedly.

“If you like that, then you will like this even more” he whispered to her.

A slight glow began at the bottom of the water, growing bigger as the mysterious thing came closer to the surface. Spots of glowing was forming in different areas of the water, doing the same as the first light. Eventually the glowing connected and the whole water lit up as if it was a pond of flowing light.
“What is that?” she questioned in amazement.

“Glow fish, hard to find and quite the view to see” he said with a smile.

She smiled and nodded, still looking at the glow from the fish. Silence filled the night until the wind blew again, harder than before. The trees rustled loudly making it sound like a thousand little fluttering wings all around them.

“A beautiful night for vampires isn’t it?” A mysterious voice spoke out loud.

Mike closed his eyes to narrow down the voice’s position.

“And you are?” said Mike, looking to the sky.

“Just call me Fang” he said with a smirk as he fell down in front of them.

“An avian? Now what would a creature of the skies want with a vampire?” Mike said with a glare fixed on the avian.

“Let’s get to the point. We need the help of the vampires. Berserker wolves have killed enough of us already and we are few in numbers. Extinction is upon us and without the help of your kind we have no chance in a fight against the numbers they have become now. You are the only hope we have left” he informed him.

Mike could not help but to think that the avian’s didn’t know about the up coming war, and he could use this to his advantage.

“If the avian’s thought that the war was to help them, then there won’t be trouble from them in the future, especially if they sign a peace treaty” he thought in his head.

“Very well, but the vampires and the avian’s will make a peace treaty between the races” he said to Fang.

“I can’t speak for our chief, but I think he will go for that idea” said Fang.

Fang arched his wings in the air and thrust powerfully down, making him rise into the sky. Each flap of his large wings made gusts of wind hit the two on the ground. With a final flap, the avian disappeared into the dark cloudless sky above.

“That’s the first I’ve ever seen one of those before” Chantel said uncovering her eyes of Mike’s jacket.

“Avian’s. . . they live in the mountains where no human can find them. Humans are the one species they really dislike” he lectured while still looking to the sky.

The two of them went back into the castle where Mike had to make a letter to the other vampire Elders about the recent visit. Chantel decided to learn more about the avian’s in the library near the east corridor of the castle.

“Avian’s, avian’s, avian’s” she spoke beneath her breath as she slid her finger along the book titles on the shelves.

Chantel got to the end of the second shelf when her finger hit a book on species that seemed to be home made. The book had an old red leather cover with string bindings to hold the pages. She opened the book to read the first page so she could find the page number for avian’s. The first page wasn’t the table of context but rather a note from the writer made with stylish hand writing.

~Walk in the footsteps of the king with his guardians when shadows are in disguise. In the darkest of places will be found the weapons to rise, resting beneath the sun.
To my son Micheal ~

Chantel kept going through the pages knowing this was a book that didn’t belong in the library. She stopped at a page with the word that said Avian’s for the title. Chantel began to read what it said about them.

Avian’s -A human who mutated from an infected bird he ate during, what believed to be, the 3rd gen war. Our scientist believed he was a starving man who may have lost much in the war and became desperate for survival. A change in genetic structure which results in a variant form of wings formed from the middle part of his shoulder blade giving him the ability of flight. Humans despised the change and tried to kill him, forcing him to flee to the mountains where he mated with a human and created another avian. Not much more is known about there abilities other than flight.
~ Dr. Ranis ~

That was all that Chantel could find other than drawings of wings and different variations of avian’s sitting and standing. She kept flipping through the pictures and came to the title berserker wolves.

Berserker Wolves- A random occurrence of a child being born with wolf dna. Once again the humans despised the child along with the mother and were forced into the forest. Currant where about’s are unknown. Not much is known about this species except that they are high tempered and are made up of completely males, no female has yet to have been found.
~Dr. Embers~

Again there was sketches of the species in different forms. After studying the sketches she moved onto the next species in the book.

Amazon Wolfs- Thought to be on this earth from the beginning like the humans. Hidden deep in the forest with their own way of living. Background story of this species is still unknown nor is much known about their abilities. believed to be extinct -this has not yet been proven. One thing that is known is the fact that they are no males in this species. Possible similarities to the Berserker Wolves, may have some sort of historic background.

~Prof. Intellectus~

This time there was no sketches of the species, only a sketch of a circle with arrows pointing from the center to the outer edges. She flipped the page to come to the human specie.

Human’s -unknown of when they arrived or if they were first of the human-like species. They are looked down upon by other species due to their greed and clouded minds. Only abilities they have is their intellect and physical strength, in which is limited and doesn’t match up to other species. A weak specie that’s only good for inventing and farming. A good food source for vampires.

~King Marquise~

Chantel looked at the sketches of the humans farming and inventing things and some wielding weapons. The time was getting late but her curiosity wouldn’t sleep. Flipping the pages to see how many species were left to read about, only to find that she was at her last species information. The vampires was all that was left before blank pages filled the remainder of the book.

Vampires- unknown of how vampires began. The first vampire was King Marquise followed by his four guardians. Abilities of a vampire is immunity, longer life span, lighter in weight, ten times the physical strength of a human. Note: abilities of King Marquise and his four guardians differ from a normal vampire. Vampires feed on human blood or animal blood, animal blood only keeps vampires alive and not to full strength. Weak to sunlight making them known as creatures of the night or night crawlers, names originated from humans to describe vampires.

~Remnis~

Chantel observed the sketches before her eye lids grew heavy. She yawned and closed the book to her side. Leaving the library and towards the stairs to Mike’s room when she heard a noise behind her. A dark shadow moved across the wall and a sound of a door shutting echoed down a hall way. Chantel rushed up the stair and burst through the door and slammed it behind her.

“What’s the matter?” Mike questioned sitting in the chair by the corner.
